’da Kink in My Hair Playwright Trey Anthony Joins TFS for Upcoming ‘In Conversation’ Event

Toronto Film School’s popular In Conversation speaker series is set to mark its 2021 return with a very special guest visit from multi-award-winning writer Trey Anthony.

 

Anthony’s work includes the four-time Dora Award-nominated play ‘da Kink in My Hair and How Black Mothers Say I Love You. She succeeded in becoming the first black woman in Canada to have a television series on a prime-time network in 2007, when a TV version of ‘da Kink in My Hair began airing on Global TV.

 

 

The four-time NAACP Award-winning writer – whose latest book, Black Girl in Love (With Herself), was published in early January – will join the next instalment of the In Conversation speaker series on Thursday, Feb. 18 via Zoom.

 

Co-hosted by Toronto Film School’s Executive Producer in Residence Andrew Barnsley and Writing for Film & TV graduate Caleigh Bacchus, the 90-minute, interview-style discussions typically cover the entire span of our guest speakers’ careers.

 

Previous guests have included Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Atom Egoyan, Oscar- and Golden Globe-nominated writer and actor Nia VardalosBeverly Hills 90210 star Jason Priestley,  the Emmy-winning star of Orphan Black, Tatiana Maslany, Emmy-winning Schitt’s Creek actor, Annie Murphy, and 30-year veteran stand-up comedian Caroline Rhea.

Trey Anthony is an award-winning writer, motivational speaker and relationship/life coach. She is the first black woman in Canada to have a television series on a prime-time network.
