Arcade at Toronto Film School Sept. 17

During 48 hours this past August the Toronto Film School hosted a Video Game Jam where teams worked feverishly to create original games in the theme of “unethical business practices”. Now those games are ready to be played by the public at the Toronto Film School Arcade on Sept. 17.

Six teams and more than 30 people who participated in the Game Jam and organizers said the results were a variety of interesting games that ranged from requiring you to create a super mouse army to take over the world to girl scouts turned evil.

“There was so much collaboration, we knew exactly how we wanted to do it and in the end when everything was ready and everything worked it was an extreme feeling of satisfaction,” said Ksenia Shutova, who is in her fourth term of the Video Game Design and Animation Diploma program.

Now, students, gamers and the public will have an opportunity to try out these games and the people who created them will be on hand to explain how their games came about.

Meagan Budgell, who is graduating from the Video Game Design and Development Diploma program this month and is one of the organizers of the Arcade, said for the people who create video games, seeing people play them is a rewarding experience.

“It is really satisfying,” Budgell said.

The Arcade takes place on Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. in room 141 of the Steeles Campus of the Toronto Film School, 2000 Steeles Ave. W.
