Writing Grads Impress Quickly After Graduation: Guest Blog By Adam Till
Toronto Film School’s Writing for Film & Television Diploma graduates continue to impress quickly after graduation. Andrew Step has moved to a second internship, this time at Raven Banner under Film Production / Writing for Film and Television instructor Michael Paszt. Step has also been hired as Script Supervisor on an indie feature that goes into production later this month – the film is a currently untitled western shooting in Kleinberg, Step is thrilled to be working alongside a crew that has just come off ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ and ‘Bones’.
2016 Grad David Nguyen has received an internship at Chesler Perlmutter as a reader, and has also secured the film rights to the Stephen King short story ‘Lucky Quarter’. Nguyen plans to adapt the piece into a short film, using Toronto Film School Film Production students for the shoot.
And 2016 Grads Mika Rekai and Chase Hart’s web series ‘Antisocial’ had its release party at the Dock Ellis last month, to a packed house and rave reviews. The pair is working on completion financing for the first season of the series, which they plan to shoot later this year.
Writing and Film Production Instructor Jordan Walker’s film ‘How To Plan An Orgy In A Small Town’ opened at Cineplex Theatres around Toronto in May and was extremely well-received. There was a Q&A at our very own Yonge-Dundas Cineplex on May 13th, with cast members including Writing for Film and Television Instructor Jonas Chernick.
Marketing has begun on 2013 Grad Greg Jackson’s film ‘Excelsis’, about female MMA fighters. The film is set to shoot in November, with distribution through Breaking Glass Entertainment.
And at long last, Vice television has announced its first scripted series, ‘Nirvanna The Band The Show’ produced by Writing for Film and Television’s very own Matthew Miller. Miller has long been working on the show’s first season, which is set to debut September 29th on Vice’s Viceland channel. This series is a first venture into television for Miller, and comes on the heels of his features ‘The Dirties’ (winner Grand Jury Prize, Slamdance 2013) and ‘Operation Avalanche’, which debuted at Sundance this year and will be in theaters in Canada and the US this September, with distribution by Lionsgate and eOne.
