From Writing Rooms, Readers and Feature Film Development TFS Writing Students and Faculty Working on Impressive Projects

As always, I’d like to start the term by giving you the latest news from the Writing For Film & Television Program.

2016 Grads Mika Rekai and Andrew Step are already off to the races, having secured internships at Oriah Entertainment and Chesler Perlmutter, respectively. Both have been hired as readers, doing coverage on scripts and recommending projects. And both have already impressed their companies, receiving greater volume and higher priority scripts after just a few months.

Writing For Film & Television Program instructor Kyle Muir has also been having great success of late – he’s been hired by Ubisoft to write a video game in Los Angeles. Kyle can’t disclose details about the project, but he’s part of the new trend of hiring screenwriters to write story for games. Unfortunately, Kyle will miss next term as a result of the contract, but we’ll be excited to have him back in the summer.

Rabia Khan and her son, who graduated from TFS in the same year.

2014 Grad Rabia Khan has gone into development with SK Films on her feature script entitled Rose. Rose is the story of a woman invited to her ex’s wedding, only to find that his intentions are even more sinister than she imagined. SK (run by Toronto Film Schoo Film Production instructor Sonia Kay) is currently seeking completion financing for the film, which they plan to shoot early next year.

And congratulations to 2016 Grad/Valedictorian Dan Bingham, who’s already managed his first journey into a writer’s room. Dan was asked to help with punch-ups onWriting For Film & Television Instructor Jonas Chernick and Jeremy Lalonde’s new film, currently titled Time Travel Bitch. The film is being produced by Toronto Film School Instructor Jordan Walker, with plans to shoot this fall.

And finally, on a personal note, 20th Century Fox and Fox TV have decided to purchase my sitcom Meds, with ACT instructor Fabrizio Filippo and Brandon Firla. Fox plans to develop the series with us, with a view toward pilot production mid-season or next year. We are currently in the process of negotiating the deal, I’ll keep you posted as things develop.

Welcome back to Writing For Film & Television , all the best for the coming term!
