Meet Alexandra Aylott: 2015 Valedictorian of the Graphic Design and Interactive Media Diploma Program at TFS

Alexandra Aylott is the 2015 Valedictorian of the Graphic Design and Interactive Media Diploma Program at the Toronto Film School. Find out how she ended up in the program, what motivates her and her advice to new students in this Q&A.

TFS: Where are you from?

AA: I’m from Scarborough, Ontario

TFS: What brought you to Toronto Film School?

AA: What brought me to Toronto Film School was the great reviews and being able to learn all I needed to succeed in one year.

TFS: Why did you choose your program?

AA: I choose the program I did because I already had a diploma in Advertising and I got to learn design well in that program. I completed multiple internships in design and learned I needed to learn more if that was the path I was going to journey down.

TFS: Why do you think you were chosen as the Valedictorian for your program?

AA: I think I was chosen as valedictorian because of how dedicated I was and how hard I worked at the Toronto Film School. I always had my work done before deadlines and always made sure I was on the right path. Not only with my own work but helping others by tutoring and being a Teachers Assistant.

TFS: If you could offer one piece of advice to an incoming student, what would that be?

AA: I would suggest to new students, always be organized with your work. Plan to be done before set deadlines so you have time to do things you like on the side. You can easily get caught up in your work, make sure you always make time for family and friends and any hobbies you may have!

TFS: What is one of the most important things you have learned/experienced at TFS?

AA: The most important thing I learned at TFS is that if you truly want something and put your whole heart into it, you can achieve anything.

TFS: What keeps you motivated?

AA: What keeps me motivated is constantly seeing design everywhere I go. There is always something that will catch my eye and sparks an idea or a wonder to how they did that or built it.

TFS: What are your plans after graduation?

AA: My plans after graduation are to get a job as a junior design so I can begin paying my dues. Work my way up the chain over the years and eventually become an art director. I also, in my career, want to come back to the TFS as soon as I can to become a teacher and teach what I’ve learned in my career. I have also always dreamed of opening a small full service print shop much later in my career.
