Toronto Film School Announces 2025 Summer Academy

TORONTO, ON, February 5, 2025 – Toronto Film School is thrilled to announce the launch of its Summer Academy 2025 – a series of immersive, week-long bootcamps designed for creative high school students eager to explore filmmaking, acting, and video game design.
These dynamic academies, which will run throughout July and August at Toronto Film School’s downtown campuses, offer students the opportunity to work closely with industry professionals in their chosen field.
Toronto Film School’s Summer Academy is specifically designed for students aged 15-17 who are entering Grade 11 or 12, and aims to provide them with a head start in the fast-paced world of film, TV, and video games. Each academy is limited to just 24 students, ensuring personalized attention and an interactive, hands-on experience!
Academy Bootcamps:
1. Acting Academy
In this immersive academy, high school students will work with TFS instructors Rosanna Saracino* and Chris Jacot* to explore the craft of acting in a supportive, hands-on environment. Participants will delve into foundational techniques such as camera awareness, character work, script analysis, blocking, stagecraft, improvisation, and how to be authentic and truthful in a role. Students will also practice movement and vocal control while preparing scenes for both live and on-camera performances. This week-long acting academy provides a peek into the hands-on learning and industry-focused training that defines our full-time Acting for Film, TV & the Theatre diploma program at Toronto Film School.
Dates: July 14–18, 2025 or August 18–22, 2025
2. Filmmaking Academy
High school students will join TFS instructors Leah Walker* and Dave McGrath* as they navigate the different stages of filmmaking together during this intensive bootcamp. Participants will be an essential part of the development process as they are lead through the creative and logistical elements of production. Collaborating in groups, students will have the chance to execute their ideas guided by experienced industry professionals. This week-long filmmaking bootcamp offers a taste of the hands-on learning delivered by the full-time Film Production diploma program at Toronto Film School.
Dates: July 7–11, 2025 or August 11–15, 2025
3. Video Game Academy
In this action-packed academy, high school students will dive into the exciting world of video game creation with guidance from TFS instructor Naveen Prasad* and other faculty members. Working as part of a creative team, students will learn the fundamentals of game design, programming, and game art while collaborating to create their own playable game concept. From brainstorming original ideas to testing the final product, participants will experience the thrill of bringing a vision to life. This immersive week offers an engaging introduction to the skills and hands-on learning taught in the full-time Video Game Design & Animation and Video Game Design & Development programs at Toronto Film School
