Ready to kickstart your creative journey? Start building a strong foundation for a creative career in one of our intensive summer academies. Our faculty of working filmmakers, credited actors, or video game creators will start preparing academy students for a career in the exciting world of film, TV, or video games.
Designed for young creatives entering Grade 11 or 12*, these week-long bootcamps will see you make new friends and contacts while becoming familiar with the skills, techniques, and industry lingo professionals use today to bring their projects to life.

Eligibility and Age Requirements
Entering Grade 11-12
To be eligible, applicants must be entering Grade 11 or 12.
Up to 17 years old
Applicant must be no older than 17 years of age by the academy’s end date.
Maximum 24 students
Each academy will have a maximum of 24 students.

Filmmaking Academy
As a Filmmaking Academy student, you will be introduced to the creative and logistical elements of a production.

As an Acting Academy student, you will explore the craft of acting in a supportive, hands-on environment.

What are Toronto Film School Summer Academies?
High school students will join instructors from Toronto Film School as they navigate the different stages of filmmaking, acting or video game production.
Students will be an essential part of the development process as the instructor leads them through the creative and logistical elements of their chosen field of study. Collaborating in groups, students will have the chance to execute their ideas guided by experienced industry professionals.
These week-long boot camps offer a taste of the hands-on learning experiences delivered by the full-time programs at Toronto Film School.
Where are Toronto Film School Summer Academies being held?
The programs will be held at Toronto Film School’s downtown campuses.
Acting – 460 Yonge Street
Video Game – 415 Yonge Street
Filmmaking – 10 Dundas Street East
Specific locations are subject to change. All campuses are a short 5-minute walk from one another.
What are the specific dates for the Toronto Film School Summer Academies?
The TFS Summer Academies will be held in July and August 2025.
For July 2025, the Academies will be held the weeks of July 7 (Filmmaking), July 14 (Acting) and July 21 (Video Game).
In August 2025, the Academies will be held the weeks of August 11 (Filmmaking), August 18 (Acting) and August 25 (Video Game).
Who delivers the Toronto Film School Summer Academies?
The TFS Summer Academies are delivered by the TFS Faculty and Staff who teach in our diploma programs, all of whom are experienced industry professionals.
Why should I attend a Toronto Film School Summer Academy?
For those interested in film production, acting, or video games, these will be fun, interactive boot camps that offer a taste of the hands-on learning experiences delivered by the full-time programs at Toronto Film School.
How long is each day at the academy?
The daily schedule is the same for each academy.
Each day has a morning session from 9 a.m. – noon, a one-hour lunch break, then an afternoon session from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Students are responsible for their own lunches.
How much do the Toronto Film School Summer Academies cost?
The cost per academy is $650. Academy pricing is inclusive of insurance and a $100 non-refundable fee.
Can I be in a group with my friends?
Each academy will have a maximum of 24 students who will largely work together throughout the week. If two participants have enrolled in the same academy in the same week, they will be working/learning together.
Do I need creative arts experience to attend a Toronto Film School Summer Academy?
No—Toronto Film School Summer Academies are designed for both novices and those with some experience. They are fun boot camps that provide a taste of the hands-on learning experiences delivered by the full-time programs at Toronto Film School.
Do participants get a credential for completing an academy?
Participants who complete an academy get a certificate of completion, which can be cited on a CV or resume.
Do I need to bring anything to the academy I’ve enrolled in?
Yes, for all academies you will need a smartphone, wired earphones, and a 32MB USB key (the USB key is required to take home any work produced).
For the Filmmaking Academy, students are also asked to bring work gloves, as some moving of equipment may be required.
Will the academies run next year?
Yes, we plan to offer Summer Academies next year as well.
Can parents/guardians/guests watch any academy sessions?
On the Friday afternoon of each academy week, parents/guardians/guests are invited to attend the campus, to see what participants have been working on through the week.
Are lunches provided at the TFS Summer Academies?
Students have a one-hour lunch break from 12-1pm each day, they are responsible for their own lunches.
Is there transportation provided to the TFS Summer Academies?
There is no transportation provided to the TFS Summer Academies, though all three downtown campuses are easily accessible by public transportation.

What is the Cancellation Policy?
All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing via email to academy@torontofilmschool.ca.
Refund Timeline:
- Full Refund: Cancellations made more than 60 days before the Academy start date will receive a full refund minus a $100 processing fee.
- Partial Refund: Cancellations made between 15 and 60 days before the Academy start date will receive a 50% refund of the total Academy fee.
- No Refund: Cancellations made less than 15 days before the Academy start date will not be eligible for a refund.
Transfer Policy:
If you need to transfer your registration to another Academy session, requests must be made at least 15 days prior to the original Academy start date and will be granted subject to availability. A $25 transfer fee will apply.
Emergency Cancellations:
In the event of a medical emergency or other extenuating circumstances, please contact us. We may offer a partial refund or credit toward a future Academy session at our discretion.
Weather or Other Emergencies:
In the case of cancellation due to severe weather or unforeseen emergencies, we will attempt to reschedule the Academy week. If rescheduling is not possible, a full refund will be issued.
Refund Processing:
Refunds will be processed within 4-6 weeks of the cancellation request and will be issued to the original payment method.

Toronto Film School reserves the right to cancel any Academy week due to insufficient enrolment. Cancellations will occur at least 60 days prior to Academy start date.
